Festival-goers will enjoy an interactive display from the Walla Walla Fire Department featuring fire trucks, rescue vehicles, and ambulances, a basketball camp by the Whitman College men’s basketball team and activities from Walla Walla School District. Kay Barga will be putting on a bike clinic and handing out free bike helmets, sponsored in part by the Phi Delta Theta chapter. Izzy the Camel, a community favorite, will be there to greet everyone. Numerous non-profits from the valley will provide information and fun activities for the kids. Community Resilience Initiative will be on hand to kick off October’s Resilience Month.
Inside the theater, the Columbia REA Stage will come to life with performances from Waitsburg’s youth band Switchgrass Band, Ballet Folklorico, and Rock Camp bands playing throughout the day.
Ed Brown and Sons Family Orchards will have free apples for everyone. Smiths Insulation is sponsoring free cotton candy and sno-cones. Lunch will be available to purchase from food vendors: Why Not Pizza, A Wing and a Prayer-BBQ and Happy Wonder Taco Truck.
“The beauty of closing down the street in front of the Gesa Power House Theatre,” says Jim Byrnes, Executive Director of Friends of Children of Walla Walla, “Is that if it rains, we move everything inside to the theater and the entire event still goes on!”
