Downtown Farmers Market wins the 2017 Economic Vitality Award
The Downtown Walla Walla Foundation is pleased to announce that the Downtown Farmers Market has been awarded the 2017 Economic Vitality award at Washington Main Street’s Excellence on Main Awards Ceremony on April 25 in Ellensburg, Washington. The ceremony was held in conjunction with RevitalizeWA, Washington State’s Preservation and Main Street Conference.
The Excellence on Main Awards, organized by the Washington State Main Street Program, recognizes communities, organizations, and individuals who are helping to achieve economic vitality and build sustainable communities through downtown revitalization and preservation. Washington’s Main Street Program is housed in the Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation and administered, under contract, by the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation.
The Economic Vitality award recognizes economic enhancement efforts that have resulted in improving the economic vitality of the district, including job creation and retention, job training and retraining, sales growth, profitability and reinvestments, increased assets, and an influx of new dollars from outside the area. In 2016, the Downtown Farmers Market helped facilitate close to $500,000 in local sales through the market season.
Congratulations are in order for EVERYONE involved (vendors, volunteers, management, sponsors, musicians, non-profits, community partners and on and on) over the last 20 years who have helped facilitate this great community asset!
