Wonderful Women Wednesday: Kiffin Allington
Henry Earl Estates Wine Bar is a women-led business. We believe that beautiful things happen when women respect, support, and believe in each other. We want Henry Earl to be a safe space for all women where we can connect, inspire, and uplift each other.
On the third Wednesday of each month, from 6 to 8 p.m., we host a female-only evening with a featured female speaker who shares her story, the struggles she has overcome, and her success.
How do we choose our speakers? You can nominate someone or yourself. Whenever we see a woman doing something wonderful, we ask her if she’d like to be one of our speakers.
In May, our featured speaker is Kiffin Allington, and we couldn’t be more excited and grateful.
About Kiffen: Kiffin helps others identify and move beyond the root causes of the issues that keep them stuck in life. Film: Storm Lake
Gesa Power House Theatre proudly presents the award-winning documentary Storm Lake. It explores the efforts of Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Art Cullen and his family as they fight to unite and inform their Iowan farming community through their biweekly newspaper, The Storm Lake Times, come hell or pandemic.
Dark clouds hang over the cornfields of Storm Lake, Iowa, which has seen its fair share of change in the 40 years since Big Agriculture came to town. Farmers blow their life savings on new equipment they hope will keep their livelihoods intact. Migrant workers flock here—welcome and not—for their slice of the American Dream. The people of Storm Lake confront a changing and precarious existence. Enter Art Cullen and his family members, who deliver local news and editorials on a shoestring budget for their 3,000 readers. This paper means a fighting chance for their beloved hometown; by hook or crook, they’ll make the most of it. There’s too much at stake.

Pink Pape Party
Tranche is celebrating its newest vintage of Pink Pape Rosé —a wine so good it deserves its own party. This bash is headlined by Seattle’s indie-rock darlings, Smokey Brights. Wine will be flowing, and the dance floor will be shaken.

Live Cinema — Macbeth: Ralph Fiennes and Indira Varma
Tony and BAFTA Award winner Ralph Fiennes (Antony & Cleopatra, Schindler’s List, Coriolanus) and Olivier Award winner Indira Varma (Present Laughter, Game of Thrones, Luther) star in a brand-new ‘full-voltage visceral’ (Daily Telegraph) production of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth.
Filmed live at Dock X, a custom-built theatre space in London, this critically acclaimed staging of Macbeth ‘that quickens the pulse, then goes for the jugular’ (Financial Times) will be unmissable on the big screen.
Directed by Simon Godwin (Antony & Cleopatra, Romeo & Juliet, Hansard) with set and costume design by Frankie Bradshaw (Jerusalem, Blues for an Alabama Sky), this is a cinematic and ‘beautifully staged’ (WhatsOnStage) production that brings ‘Shakespeare’s tragedy pulsing into the present day’ (The I).
Macbeth is coming. A couple corrupted by their relentless lust for power have blood on their hands. Witness the gripping tale of greed, murder, deception, and superstition in cinemas for a limited time only. Once you cross the line, you can never turn back.

Kate & the Crocodiles
Kate & The Crocodiles is a Portland-based trio that presents compelling indie rock originals and covers mixed with early jazz, classical art songs, and reinventions of classic rock. If the spectrum sounds broad, it is all held together by a signature sound informed by classical sensibilities and a respectful blending of the genres. It’s like a warm conversation with a good friend.
The band is made up of Kate Morrison, a refreshing and innovative classically-trained vocalist and player of generally small instruments (ukulele, toy drums, etc.), performing as a guest vocalist with Pink Martini, the Oregon East Symphony and Utah Symphony; Craig Bidondo, a colorful, energetic and soulful keyboardist; Gavin Bondy, the intuitive trumpeter of Pink Martini.
An evening with Kate & The Crocodiles has been called “A perfect combination of musical talent and intimate, unforgettable entertainment.”
With some variation, the instrumentation goes like this:
Craig Bidondo — keyboards
Gavin Bondy — brass
Kate Morrison — vocals, strings, maybe a toy drum set?

Film: Sometimes I Think About Dying
Lost on the dreary Oregon coast, Fran wastes her daylight hours in the solitude of a cubicle, listening to the constant hum of officemates, occasionally daydreaming to pass the time. She is ghosting through life, unable to pop her bubble of isolation. Then, Robert started up at the company. He is new to town and the dynamics of the office. He is a naturally friendly person who keeps trying to chat with Fran. Though it goes against every fiber of her being, she may have to give this guy a chance.
Director Rachel Lambert and her team craft beautiful cinema for this delicately told story of love for the socially awkward and emotionally challenged. The film is made all the more human by its lovely cast (which features Walla Walla’s own Rich Hinz), but this is most prominent in the penetrating eyes of lead actor-producer Daisy Ridley and the caring smile of lead actor Dave Merheje. Sometimes, I Think About Dying is an unexpected fable on the virtues of living.
Alexander Kariotis
Alexander’s music leaves listeners exhilarated and breathless. He weaves timeless operatic arias amid soaring rock melodies with a powerhouse rock rhythm section with strings, woodwinds, brass, and backing vocals,
Classically trained in opera, Alexander has studied with vocal masters such as Arrigo Pola (the late Luciano Pavarotti’s voice teacher), Gianni Raimondi (La Scala, Italy), Dan Marek, John Wustman, and Nico Castel (Metropolitan Opera).
Alexander is a full scholarship graduate of the Mannes School of Music in New York City (B.M.) and Northwestern University (M.M.). As a lyric tenor, Alexander has performed internationally, with appearances at Avery Fisher Hall and The Berlin Philharmonic, and has performed alongside Tony Award-winning actress Elizabeth Ashley in the Columbia Artists/Broadway tour of “Master Class” by Terrence McNally.

Matt Johnson: Urban Deception
Featured on many of the world’s top shows, including America’s Got Talent, Britain’s Got Talent, The World’s Best, Penn & Teller Fool Us, The Late Late Show with James Corden, and more, Matt Johnson’s show is one not to miss!
International magician and escape artist Matt Johnson is originally from the United Kingdom and now resides in Vancouver, Canada. Matt has been performing magic and escapes for more than 30 years. In that time, he has traveled the globe! Matt has performed in exotic locations such as Japan, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Panama, Italy, and Australia.
In 2019, Matt was voted the Number 2 Most Viewed Act on Britain’s Got Talent and the Number One Most Dangerous Act. Matt is well known for his death-defying escapes.
Matt began his career as a magician and escapologist in his hometown of Sheffield, England. His knowledge of magic and escapes grew on his travels around the world. He picked up techniques and skills from the countries he visited and the people he met. This unique perspective has allowed Matt to make his performances completely unique and utterly captivating.
Not your typical magician, Matt has crafted a style known as Urban Deception, a refreshingly cool mix of magic and escapes combined with the comedic timing and slick stage presence of a seasoned corporate performer.
His performances incorporate magic, escapes, sleight of hand, mind reading, the power of suggestion, razor-sharp comedic timing, and audience participation into a performance that Simon Cowell called “simply brilliant!”
Seattle Jewish Film Festival – Selected Shorts
We hit the road for many reasons: to seek, to escape, to grieve, to revive. Jews find deeper meaning in the phrase Lech-Lecha —Hebrew for “go forth” or “go to yourself”— the notion that, consciously or not, guides the characters in this program of shorts: from the addict who drags her friend on a quest to Tzfat, to the animated grandmother drag-racing to escape the law; from the man who drives a young woman to the border to a mother and daughter turn a trip to a big-box store into a referendum on familial hierarchies and desires.
Film: Vishniac
Roman Vishniac from his early years in tsarist Russia to his emergence as a modernist photographer in Weimar Berlin, his journeys across Eastern Europe before the war, and his family’s dramatic escape to America in 1940. After the war, Vishniac’s documentation continued with photographs of Berlin in ruins and children in displaced persons camps. Then, in a stunning shift, he turned almost exclusively to scientific photography, where he made considerable contributions in the field of microscopy. His “Living Biology” series, funded by the National Science Foundation, features some of the first films depicting life through a microscope. They became a staple in the 1960s and 1970s in classrooms across the United States. The brilliant artist, however, is best known for his iconic images of Jewish life in Eastern Europe from 1935 and 1938, the last visual records of these communities before they were wiped out.
The film is narrated by Vishniac’s daughter, Mara Kohn Vishniac, who was born in Berlin in 1926. Her clear-eyed view of her father adds to the complexity of a man who was a sometimes unreliable narrator of his own life story. Growing up in her father’s shadow, Mara sought to break free of his grip, only to come around and embrace his legacy. Ultimately, she took responsibility for preserving his diverse and stunning body of work, a haunting eulogy to a world on the brink of destruction.
